HIS 490 Research: Area Research Centers (ARCs)

Research Guide for Special Collections and the Area Research Center (SC/ARC)

The ARC network

The Wisconsin Historical Society and the University of Wisconsin (UW) System cooperate in a network of Area Research Centers (ARCs) located at UW campus libraries throughout the state and at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center.

  • Each Area Research Center serves a specific geographic region.
  • Records created in and focused on the region served by a particular ARC are housed permanently at the appropriate Center.
  • You can access most collections from across the state by having them sent to the ARC at Murphy Library's Special Collections.
  • Send an email to specoll@uwlax.edu to request a collection.

All ARC materials have records that are searchable on the Murphy Library website, and by using the filters on the left side of the results page.
